A unique evening of spanish language literature, celebrating the launch of German Rodriguez’s The Time Between His Eyes (El tiempo entre sus ojos) and J. Pablo Ortiz’s Open Sea (De mar abierto).
German Rodríguez was born in Santa Ana, El Salvador (1982). Upon graduating from El Zamorano University he traveled to Toronto to continue his studies and to begin his literary career. He currently lives in Calgary, where he continues to write.
J. Pablo Ortiz is a poet, essayist, and researcher. He completed his Ph.D. in Latin American literature at the University of Calgary where he taught from 2005 to 2013. He has over a dozen articles published in Ocho Columnas, Dissidences: Hispanic Journal of Theory and Criticism, Hipertexto, Etiópicas, Konvergencias, and LEMIR, among others. He has published the books: El sueño del dinero escarabajo y otros poemas (2004), Ante la oscuridad (2005), and De no pedirle al viento la noche, hoy en el silencio (2007), and De mar abierto / Open Sea (Trans. by Helena Dunsmoor). Nela Rio and Ortiz co-edited the anthology: Dieciocho voces de la poesía hispano-canadiense (2010). His research focuses on contemporary poetry and eastern religions (Buddhism, Tantrism, Zen). He is currently Director of of International Development and Programs in Olds College.
