Single Onion #114

 The Single Onion presents its first youth poetry event, featuring several talented emerging poets.

Mary Heeg is a young writer who attends grade 9 at the Calgary Waldorf School. Her poetry has been published in The Calgary Project: A City Map in Verse and Visual. She recently shared her poetry in the inaugural youth showcase at the Mayor’s Lunch for Art’s Champions.

Caritas Longman is a writer living in Calgary. She works in page poetry, spoken word, and prose.

Bethan McBreen is a nineteen-year-old athlete from Cochrane,. She is studying psychology and English at Mount Royal University.

Eden Middleton has had a passion for telling stories, since she was small, in whatever ways she can, including music, theater, prose, poetry or even dolls. She has been performing spoken word for under a year, and is currently finishing ninth grade at Queen Elizabeth High School.

Dave Rowland is a seventeen-year-old grade 11 student at Foothills Composite High School, in Okotoks. He enjoys writing poetry and lyrics, and is currently working on a manuscript for a novel entitled “Xenophage.”

Erin Emily Ann Vance is an English student at the University of Calgary with a passion for teaching, learning, languages, special education, and open communication through literature and creative writing. Erin is an accomplished writer for her twenty years, having been published numerous times and invited to perform at the 2012 Calgary International Spoken Word Festival. An advocate for accessible education, eating disorder awareness, and the empowerment of girls and women, her writing focuses on family, travel, ability, gender, body image, and equality.
